The cats..

The cardboard box lay on the living room floor, something alive appears to be in it, hiding itself from me. I walked cautiously towards it, not making any noise, wary of what might be in there. I opened the flap of the box, a pair of innocent eyes that was attached to a tiny white body stared out at me. I picked up the piece of paper that was on the flap of the box and read its content, hoping to find out why on earth the cat was in the house.

" The cat is a present i bought for you which i hope would help you get over Mike. Love, mum." I read silently. Nothing would ever replace Mike.

Mike was the family dog, a tiny Jack Russell. We lost him to God due to a fatal car accident. That incident left my heart feeling empty and numb as I was the closest to Mike in the family. I took care of him, played with him, fed him and walk him every single day. Mike would cheer me up whenever I feel down just like what a friend would do. Life without Mike was hard to go through. Being in the house, no matter where, would remind me of the times we had together.

The cat was constantly irritating me by jumping around in front of me, leaping onto my laps and meowing non stop. When I was in a very bad mood, I would just kick the cat and it would meow pitifully which just makes me more irritated. Sometimes, I would just abuse the cat by whacking it and kicking to vent my anger as it was such a nuisance. Instead of feeding it when I was instructed to, I would just ignore its hunger and leave it to starve. In no time at all, it was all skin and bones. Due to my constant abuse, the cat was so malnutritioned and dehydrated that it grew unconsious.

Upon realising that, i immediately sent it to the nearby vet. After the vet treated it, it was still weak so it had to stay there for a couple of hours. I sat beside it and look at it. When the cat opened its eyes, it placed its paws on my hand and images of Mike flashed through my mind. I decided there and then that I would stop ill treating the cat and treat it like how I treated Mike.

Cats...

I still remembered vividly the few events concerning this particular black cat in my neighbour's house. When i first moved into my new house,i passed by my neighbour's house and saw this black cat fiercely staring straight into my eyes. From that moment,i knew this cat would not be as friendly to me as how it is to my family members...

When i was walking home towards my block,i saw this cat following every single footstep i took and it followed me all the way to the lift lobby. As i was very scared of cats in the past,i tried to avoid it by walking up to my house through the stairs instead of having to take the same lift as the cat if it was to follow me all the way. However,to my astonishment, the cat indeed followed behind me up the stairs.

I began increasing my speed and slowly i found myself running all the way to the sixteenth storey, gasping for breath. The cat seemed so relax while chasing me,i had no choice but to stop running at the seventh storey and stare blindly on the cat while catching my breath. To my surprise, when i stop running,it stop running as well.I thought,"perhaps it would just follow whatever i do.I shall run all the way to the tenth storey and stop at the lift lobby, hopefully the cat will stop there as well.I can then get into the lift slowly without it noticing and get back to my house."I did as what i planned and luckily, the plan worked!

For the remaining few months,i did not see the cat anymore.Usually,i would see it every morning when its owner brings it out for a walk while i am on my way to school as we both are living in the same level. Therefore,i assumed that the family had already moved out for good.Unfortunately, one day,the cat found its way into my house. My mother said she might have forgotten to lock up the door when she came back from the market that morning and nobody reminded her as all of us were sleeping.

The owner of the cat,Mrs Chua, came knocking on our door and told my mother that her cat might have came into our house. My mother allowed her to search all over our house while we were sleeping but Mrs Chua kept mewing to search for the cat and it woke all of us up.The cat was lying right beside me!I screamed my lungs out and ran out of my room leaving the cat alone on my bed and went to complain to Mrs Chua on why she did not look properly after her cat. That was the last time i saw this cat because Mrs Chua moved shortly after this incident.

Cats were the only creature that i had been afraid of and will still be afraid of...

Celebrities should not be role models.

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.
"Californication" -a slang term coined by Americans for a situation whereby rich former residents of California move into other states and drive housing prices up by buying multiple houses. This term can also be interpreted to mean the invasion of Californian residents, and in this case the invasion of Hollywood (a resident of California)into the hearts and minds of our youth. Cease your denial and open your eyes, for it has already happened. Young girls are starving themselves, casual sex is increasing, clothing are getting smaller and smaller -and all for the same excuse of "I saw it on TV". Our children are adopting these celebrities as role models, and we must stop it at once.

Firstly, celebrities should not be our role model because they are always simply trying to get the tabloid attention when they get married,break-up,do drugs, get arrested, get too thin or too fat.Obviously, they do not live the same lifestyles as we average people do even if they want to,it is very hard to change the fact that they are celebrities. To be our role model just because of their tabloid news is simply ridiculous.

Secondly, usually celebrities should only be idiolized by us and not being respected by us.Our role model is like someone whom we can talk to whereas we do not talk to the celebrities and of cause they do not talk to us.Only our families and friends talk to us.Therefore even if our families and friends are not our role model, the celebrities should not even have the single position to be our role model.

Thirdly, most celebrities are not the knights in shining armour that most percieve them to be. Take for example the recent case of the wrestler in his mansion. He had committed suicide after killing his wife and child while on multiple drugs at the same time. This clearly shows that while some celebrities do help make the world a better place by helping canvass support for tsunami victims. However, the minority does not determine the whole. The same is true vice-versa. There is no way to tell how many poor children have been misleaded to believe everything their 'role models' say.

Edited speeech for Group 1

"Thou shall not kill" has graced over the pages of the Holy Bible, Kuran, and even the Singapore law -yet unknowing to many, an unconvicted killing goes on near everyday. What is this killing, you ask? It is Abortion -the legal massacre. Murder is defined by 'the killing of another human being under conditions specifically covered in law', yet why does the law not cover Abortion, which, in essence, is equivalent? Murder is still murder, no matter how penitential the maiden feels when she allows the ingurgitating vacuum to shred her baby piece by piece, section by section until the young life lays its tomb in the mother's womb. Abortion is murder, so why is this murder legal?

Extract..

I treaded over the wet and slimy floor as i groped in the darkness, looking for what felt like a switch that might open the tightly bolted door so as to get myself out of this disgusting school basement and away from the Discipline Master who was hot on my heels.

"Get right here now!" the rough and croaky voice exploded just as I found the switch. Succumbing to the fact that I would never make my get-away now, I shuffled my feet towards the Discipline Master.

"Follow me!" he barked into my ear as he dragged me roughly alongside him. Pulling my arm away from him, I trailed slowly behind him as we made our way towards the principal's office.

Abortion should not be made legal

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, are you aware that the yearly abortion rate has been increasing exponentially?Majority of the population knows that aborting a baby is an immature act,yet the numbers are increasing.Abortion cannot continue!Allow me to begin my speech.

Firstly, unborn babies are the most innocent creatures in the world.Furthermore, when these parents abort them, they will lose their only chance to experience the ups and downs of our lives and to be part of us.When these parents decided to abort their baby, have they ever spared a thought for these unborn babies? Even if the child is deformed, they should not derive to an extent to abort them because the child will always have their rights to live.

Secondly, abortion should not be made legal also because abortion may cause harmful side effects for the mother. The mother may die due to losing too much blood and the ubearable pain. The whole process will leave a very deep scar in the mother's heart. The mother may forever live in guilt, furthermore, they might also suffer from being unable to have another baby again in the future.

Thirdly, abortion will not only affect the parents emotional state but also the relatives. They may suffer from depression and it will cause them especially the mother to be unable to concentrate in doing everything in daily activities. The mother will also suffer from mental problems like starting to blame herself for killing her unborn baby and also feel guilty. There are even some cases whereby the mother commited suicide immediately after she aborted her child.

Lastly, abortion is seriously not a wise choice for mothers who does not want to keep her baby anymore.Mother should not be so cruel as to end the life of an unborn child who had not even get the chance to see the world. No matter what it is still a life and the mother should not do this.Since Singapore government want to increase the population of singaporeans, why make abortion legal then?

Personally, even though I did not experience this before, I feel that abortion should not be allowed. A child is a gift from God and one should not kiil a child who is innocent. Just imagine if abortion was legal, everyone would be having casual sex. Just imagine the vastness of this problem. Already in Singapore, the situation is not looking good, but just think if everyone had sex, all young women would have abortions and that would mean killing of children.

my version of extract~~

James wandered around, assurring that nobody was around. He tried to saunter around the streets, making sure nobody suspects him.Just as he was about to roam about the fishpond one last time,he slinked towared the hobbled beggar and snatched his money away when the beggar did not notice.
